Microsoft SkyDrive is Now OneDrive

b2ap3_thumbnail_onedrive_from_microsoft_400.jpgUsers of Microsoft SkyDrive are having their service upgraded to the new OneDrive. Besides a new name, OneDrive has been given new features and Microsoft is marketing this solution as the "one place for your photos, videos, documents, and files across all your devices."

To give you an idea of what Microsoft has in store with its OneDrive service, check out this video meant to introduce OneDrive to the world:

For those of you using SkyDrive, transitioning to OneDrive is seamless and doesn't require a new install. Users that have their system settings to automatically update may have already noticed the change when logging onto their old SkyDrive account.

The three biggest updates to OneDrive include:

  1. The ability to share and view videos in the same way that you can share and view photos.
  2. Automatic camera roll backup for Android.
  3. Real time co-authoring with Office Web apps.

In addition to these upgrades, OneDrive gives users more opportunities to earn extra memory for storage. Every account comes standard with 7GB for free. You can also receive 500MB for each friend you invite to OneDrive that accepts your invitation (up to 5GB). Plus, you can get 3GB for simply using your camera's backup feature with OneDrive. When you total all of this together, that's a free 15GB, which is enough room for a decent amount of photos and files.

When it comes down to it, OneDrive is a nice improvement to SkyDrive. It's available across every major platform and comes loaded with the latest versions on Windows, Windows Phone, Office, and Xbox. Because you can save your content automatically to OneDrive, sharing your stuff across multiple devices is now easier than having to manually upload everything.

OneDrive on Xbox allows you to share your gameplay footage, and OneDrive for Office allows users to co-author in real time, meaning that multiple users can simultaneously edit a document, slideshow, or spreadsheet across multiple devices connected by the Internet. In the same way, OneDrive will allow your employees to easily store, sync, and share company files across multiple platforms, making it easy for your business to go mobile.

If you've been on the fence about SkyDrive, then the new OneDrive is worth checking out. To take advantage of what Microsoft OneDrive can do for your business, give Business Solutions & Software Group a call at (954) 575-3992.
